Anonymous: I started cutting again like 7 minutes ago :(.. it has been 2 years since i stop.. But my depression got controlled of me

first you need to tell yourself to stop, say it outloud, write it down, admit to yourself it needs stopping. When you get the urge to cut, do not pick up anything sharp, instead, sit down, take a deep breath and think for a moment, think, why am i doing this? is it worth it? is it worth the emotional rollercoaster it always turns into? is it worth hiding your arms from the people you love, from strangers too? is it worth harming your body in a way you cant take back? will it be worth the looks on your childrens faces when they notice your scars? will it be worth the feeling of anger and frustration within yourself because you have cut? put down the scissors, or whatever it is youre about to use, and talk to a friend or family member instead.

If you still feel the need to hurt yourself, then use harmless pain. instead of cutting your skin, take a freezing cold shower or hold a bag of ice cubes, this will give you a similar pain and release to cutting but its not harmful in the long run (to a certain extent). im not condoning hurting yourself, and i dont want you to do it, but if the desperation is there i would rather you do it in a way that doesnt cause long lasting damage to yourself.

never underestimate the power of counselling. it is a means inwhich you can sit and speak to someone not related to your life in anyway, they have no bias toward a certain opinion, they are there to help and not judge you, they can help you get to the bottom of the reason of why you are cutting.
