Anonymous: Hey Tally. I've never done this before so hi. I'm a cutter. I relapsed after a month last weekend. Therapy doesn't help, and all my friends think I'm better. Ive become so good at hiding that I've fooled myself into believing that I was happy

You can stop cutting, you have to believe in yourself, you can get better without hurting yourself. the biggest problem with cutting is that the relief it gives you doesnt last very long, so you end up doing it again and it ends up in a horrible cycle thats hard to get out of. i read something that said, cutting isnt the answer, what you really need is stitches, and i thought that was quite an amazing saying, because its true. if you keep cutting, you keep hurting, but you need to allowed yourself to heal. hiding the cutting is a heavy weight to carry on your shoulders, and you shouldnt have to go through that, so please try and tell someone, maybe your closest friend, so that weight gets a little lighter and easier to deal with. 

the longer you cut, the longer youre preventing yourself from finding other, healthier ways to deal with your emotions. if your too nervous to confide in someone face to face, have you thought about writing them a letter instead?

instead of cutting try painting, drawning, even scribblng on a piece of paper, write down negative feelings then rip the paper up, listen to music that expresses the way you feel. maybe go for a run or a brisk walk, when you feel the urge to cut get outthe house, away from things you can harm yourself with, get out into the open and walk your troubles away.
